Stensgard strikes late as Iron Rangers edge Norskies

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – A Jack Stensgard power play goal with 2:03 remaining in regulation was the game-winner as the Minnesota Iron Rangers edged the Thief River Falls Norskies 4-3 in Superior International Junior Hockey League play Wednesday at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Minnesota collected the lone marker of the opening period when Austin Boyle notched his sixth of the season at 13:08.

Jonathan Yanovsky upped the Iron Rangers lead 6:40 into the second stanza converting during a man advantage opportunity.

Thief River Falls got on the board three minutes later, during a power play of their own, as Michael Johnson notched his 11th of the campaign midway through the contest.

Reily McIntosh then tied it for the Norskies before the session was complete to knot the affair at 2-2 after two.

Cole Thompson put the visitors back in front four and a half minutes into the third only to see McIntosh strike again to even things up at 13:37.

Then with a late man advantage, Stensgard notched the difference maker as Minnesota pulled out the road win.

Isaiah Olschewske had a big night for the Iron Rangers as he dished out three assists, including one on the winner, to aid their offensive cause.

Minnesota outshot Thief River Falls 48-37 on the night with Jackson Nelson picking up the win and Kross Braaten suffering the loss.
