Smith’s pair leads Norskies past Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Connor Smith tallied twice to help lead the Thief River Falls Norskies to a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers in Superior International Junior Hockey League action Friday evening at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Thief River Falls got off to a good start in the contest getting goals from Keaton Huot and Smith to grab a 2-0 lead after one.

Sporting special jerseys to honour Veterans Day in the U.S., Minnesota stormed back in the middle session to knot the affair at 2-2 compliments of Austin Boyle and Joe Mata.

Tyler Chapulsky put the Norskies back on top midway through the third while Smith added the game-winner with 7:59 to go.

Cole Thompson did get one back for the Iron Rangers with 45 seconds left, but that’s as close as they would get before time expired.

Tommy Stang had a pair of assists in his SIJHL debut for Thief River Falls.

Ryan Buttazzoni made 30 saves to record the win for the Norskies while Jackson Nelson faced 21 attempts in defeat for Minnesota.
