SIJHL’s newest franchise to be dubbed the Thief River Falls Norskies

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League’s newest franchise and the ownership group of the Thief River Falls Junior A Hockey Club (Stoked LLC) is extremely excited to announce our team has been named.

We are proud to have chosen a name that is different and exciting.

We have a strong Norwegian presence in our community that we like to celebrate, so with that in mind we will be known as the Thief River Falls Norskies.

Recently, our team was officially approved by Hockey Canada as well as by the Hockey USA, the Canadian Junior Hockey League, the SIJHL and Hockey Northwestern Ontario.

We are looking forward to playing against our future rivals the Minnesota Iron Rangers of Hoyt Lakes, Minn., the Fort Frances Lakers, Thunder Bay North Stars, English River Miners and the Dryden GM Ice Dogs.

On another note, our “Name the Team” contest with the elementary schools in the city also has a winner.

Although the team did not select this name as our official name, it was our top choice from all of the school submissions and was strongly considered as a possible name by the ownership group.

In appreciation, this young student will be contacted and presented a team jersey, at the home opener.
