SIJHL; Iron Rangers alumni help St. Norbert capture NCAA D-III title

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – A trio of Superior International Junior Hockey League alumni helped their school capture an NCAA Division III national championship.

Former Minnesota Iron Rangers, in defenceman Nick La Sage along with forwards Luke Karakas and Logan Froberg are all members of St. Norbert College who defeated Salve Regina 3-2 in double overtime in the NCAA D-III title game held Saturday in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Le Sage is a junior with the Green Knights and he spent the 2012-13 season with the Iron Rangers in the SIJHL where he produced 21 points in 47 games on seven goals and 14 assists.

Karakas, a senior, skated with Le Sage in Minnesota back in 2012-13 where he tallied 13 times and helped set-up 14 others.

As for Froberg, who is a freshman at St. Norbert, he spent the past two years skating in Hoyt Lakes with the Iron Rangers.

In 58 career contests he produced 51 points, including 26 goals.
