Red Lake rocks Fort Frances

RED LAKE, Ont. – The Red Lake Miners got three points apiece from Spencer Milne and Jordan Baranesky as they went on to defeat the Fort Frances Lakers 7-2 Monday evening in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up at Cochenour Arena.

Fort Frances did open the scoring midway through the first frame as Ben Hoefler backhanded one in from close range for his 11th tally of the season.

Red Lake roared back in the second stanza however by striking four times to go up 4-1 after 40 minutes.

Power play markers from Keilan Toews and Jordan Baranesky put the home side in front before late efforts in the session courtesy of Rajvir Sanga and Shaye Sommerfeld extended the cushion.

In the third, the Miners kept coming and got another as a Howe man advantage goal at 6:33 was his 20th overall in this his rookie year in the SIJHL.

Moments later Milne added his 24th as Red Lake went up by five.

They then saw a deft deflection by Dallen Bulger in front saw him pick up his first league tally with eight and a half minutes to play.

The Lakers then closed out the scoring at 15:46 as Stone Stelzl wheeled out of the corner and snapped in his 17th through a crowd to wrap things up offensively.

Shots on goal were 44-29 in favour of the Miners with Zach Willms getting the win while Alex Bugeja suffered the loss.
