Pair of shutouts in SIJHL play Friday

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Two games in the Superior International Junior Hockey League Friday saw a pair of shutouts posted as the Thunder Bay North Stars blanked the Wisconsin Wilderness 4-0 while the Fort Frances Lakers blasted the English River Miners 8-0.

THUNDER BAY NORTH STARS 4 WISCONSIN WILDERNESS 0 – Nathanial Dupuis stopped all 35 shots he faced to register his second shutout of the season as Thunder Bay knocked off Wisconsin at the Spooner Ice House.

The only goal the visiting North Stars would need on this night came with 7:23 remaining in the opening period as Kris Kellaway notched his 14th tally of the season.

Thunder Bay tacked on two more tallies in the middle session on markers by Robert MacLean and Brandon Wolframe.

MacLean added another in the third to round out the scoring.

Taylor Santorelli and Cary Brown had a pair of assists to aid the North Stars offensive cause while Daniel Del Paggio had a helper of his own giving him at least one point in each of the past 32 games he has played.

Zann Anderson made 21 stops in defeat for the Wilderness.

FORT FRANCES LAKERS 8 ENGLISH RIVER MINERS 0 – Fort Frances got a pair of goals and two assists from Lyndon Lipinski along with four assists from defenceman Cody Wickstrom and 19 saves from netminder Jordan Cartney in the victory over English River at Ice for Kids Arena.

The Lakers took a 2-0 lead after one period of play on efforts from Lucas Debenedet and Ryan McQueen.

The home side added four more in the middle session to go up by six on goals by Bryce Lipinski, Lyndon Lipinski, Miles Nolan and Hunter Leishman.

Lyndon Lipinski and Cameron Jackson rounded out the scoring in the third to complete the romp.

P.D. Melgoza saw 46 shots fired his way in defeat for the Miners.

SIJHL action resumes Saturday with one game as Thunder Bay hosts English River in a 7:30 p.m. start at Port Arthur Arena.
