EAR FALLS, Ont. – Brandon Wolframe had a goal and two assists to help lead the Thunder Bay North Stars to a 5-2 victory over the English River Miners in a Superior International Junior Hockey League matinee Sunday at Ear Falls Arena.

Thunder Bay opened the scoring 6:21 into the contest as Brandon Wolframe notched his 17th goal of the season.

English River was quick to respond with the equalizer however as Kirk Coppock beat North Stars netminder Nathanial Dupuis just 21 seconds later.

The Miners then went in front in the later stages of the opening frame as Dominic Blouin connected at 17:21.

Action in the second stanza saw the North Stars tie things up as Brett Wolframe beat Miners’ starter P.D. Melgoza, who has seen action for both teams, at 14:45.

The visitors then used special teams to retake the lead in the late going of the session as Daniel McKitrick struck on the power play at 18:01.

Thunder Bay added to their lead early in the third thanks to a Cashen Tighe effort at 1:50.

Nicholas Nigro netted another for the North Stars five minutes later as he picked up his 21st goal of the campaign.

Matthias Gardiman picked up two assists apiece for the winning side.

Shots on goal favoured Thunder Bay 44-29 with Dupuis picking up the win and Melgoza the loss.
