North Stars’ Nicholas Nigro named Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions player of the week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. –  The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Thunder Bay North Stars forward Nicholas Nigro has been named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player of the week for the period ending Nov. 2.

In two contests this past week the 18-year-old Thunder Bay native scored four times, including both game-winners, helping his hometown North Stars skate to a pair of victories and maintain their hold on second place in the SIJHL standings.

Nigro began by notching the difference maker late in regulation in a 3-2 home ice triumph over the league-leading Fort Frances Lakers on Wednesday.

Three nights later he fired a natural hat trick, which included the winning tally, in a 6-4 decision over the English River Miners Saturday at the Fort William Gardens.

Nigro’s 11 overall markers lead his club and presently rank him fifth in the SIJHL.

Also receiving consideration for the SIJHL player of the week were: Cole Golka, (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs, Wyatt Cota, (F) Fort Frances Lakers, Thomas Fazio, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers and Jake Staples, (F) English River Miners.
