North Stars Gardiman named SIJHL’s most sportsmanlike player

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Friday that Thunder Bay North Stars forward Matthias Gardiman has been named the recipient of the SIJHL’s most sportsmanlike player award for the 2013-14 season.

Gardiman, a CCM second team all-star selection, had the lowest penalty minute total of any of the league’s top 10 point producers incurring just two minor penalties all season in 52 games played.

He earned the nod over fellow finalists, Jonathon Losurdo of the Minnesota Iron Rangers and Sawyer Jacobson of the Wisconsin Wilderness, in voting done by each of the six SIJHL member clubs.

The 19-year-old Thunder Bay product also had an impressive season offensively for the North Stars finishing third in team scoring and sixth overall in the SIJHL with 77 points on 31 goals and 46 assists.

Gardiman also registered five hat tricks during the course of the 2013-14 campaign.
