Norskies too much for Iron Rangers

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – The Thief River Falls Norskies got a pair of goals and an assist from Alec Daman to help propel them to a 5-1 victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Wednesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Minnesota did get off to a solid start notching the night’s opening tally 6:19 into the contest only to see Daman counter with the equalizer a couple shifts later for the Norskies.

Reily McIntosh then put Thief River Falls in front for good at 13:15 of the frame as his first SIJHL tally proved to be the game-winner.

Daman then supplied the lone marker in the middle session as his second of the evening and ninth overall put the home side up 3-1 after 40 minutes.

The Norskies got some insurance 8:16 into the third as Tommy Stang picked up his second as a member of Thief River Falls.

Down by three with just over six minutes to play and going on a power play, the Iron Rangers opted to pull starter Sean Angle in favour of an extra attacker in an attempt to pull closer, but it was the Norskies who rounded out the scoring with a shorthanded, empty netter from Cameron Jones at 14:58 as he secured his initial SIJHL goal.

Shots on goal favoured Thief River Falls by a 45-28 margin with Ryan Buttazzoni picking up the win and Angle the loss.
