Norskies too much for Iron Rangers

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – Parker Simonson tallied twice and helped set-up another to propel the Thief River Falls Norskies past the Minnesota Iron Rangers 7-2 in Superior International Junior Hockey League play Saturday in front of 1,475 fans at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Minnesota did open the scoring thanks to an Eli Kinsman power play marker five minutes into the contest.

Up a man themselves midway through the first, Thief River Falls drew level on Simonson’s first of the night.

The Norskies blew the game open in the middle stanza as they struck for five unanswered goals to take control.

Early man advantage efforts from Cody Aarvig and Michael Johnson started the offensive outburst while Simonson, Connor Smith and Tommy Stang supplied even strength tallies to make it 6-1 after 40 minutes.

Blair Lindholm got one more for the home side 6:24 into the third before the Iron Rangers rounded out the scoring late on David Brennan’s second of the campaign with 90 seconds left.

Dalton Johnson and Reily McIntosh dished out two assists each for Thief River Falls.

The Norskies’ Sam Novak made 19 saves in picking up the win while Jackson Nelson faced 41 shots in a losing cause for Minnesota.
