Norskies secure 1st franchsie home win while snapping Miners win streak at 8

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – The Thief River Falls Norskies celebrated their first-ever Superior International Junior Hockey League home win Saturday and also put an end to the English River Miners franchise-record eight-game winning streak in the process as they skated to a 4-2 triumph at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Thief River Falls got off to a strong start notching the night’s first two tallies to take a 2-0 lead after one period of play on markers by Michael Johnson and Alec Daman.

English River battled back early in the second as Austin Kuhn collected his sixth of the season 11 seconds into the middle session while teammate Sidney Gladue tied it at 1:34.

The Norskies retook the lead three minutes into the third when Cody Aarvig supplied the eventual game-winner.

Daman then sealed the win with a late empty netter and shorthanded effort with two seconds left to cap things off.

Sam Novak made 25 saves to record the win while Spencer Eschyschyn faced 24 attempts in defeat for the Miners.

The same two teams meet again Sunday back in Thief River Falls.
