Norskies cool off surging GM Ice Dogs with 5-2 triumph
THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – The Thief River Falls Norskies handed the Dryden GM Ice Dogs just their first regulation loss since back on November 4 as they skated to a 5-2 triumph Sunday in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
On the final leg of a three-game in three-night road trip through northern Minnesota, Dryden opened the scoring five minutes into the contest on Nic Noseworthy’s 12th tally of the season.
Thief River Falls countered with the equalizer a couple of shifts later as Peter Grytdahl levelled the proceedings at 1-1.
The Norskies took their first lead 12 and a half minutes into the middle stanza thanks to Alec Daman’s 11th marker of the campaign.
Trey Palermo tied it for the GM Ice Dogs late in the frame to knot the affair at 2-2 after two.
A quick start to the third allowed Thief River Falls to go back in front for good when Tommy Stang and Cody Aarvig connected 57 seconds apart to send the home side on their way.
Jared Pederson then added some insurance for the Norskies with 9:05 to go to round out the scoring.
Ryan Buttazzoni made 33 saves to pick up the win while Patrick Zubick saw 46 shots in defeat for Dryden.
Both teams return to the ice Wednesday as the GM Ice Dogs entertain the English River Miners at Memorial Arena while Thief River Falls is back at home to take on the Minnesota Iron Rangers in a pair of 7:30 p.m.
