Norskies blanked in preseason opener MJHL’s Flyers

WINKLER, Man. – The Winkler Flyers (MJHL) got a goal and two assists apiece from Micah Anderson and Matthew Christian while Troy Martyniuk stopped all 26 shots he faced to help blank the Thief River Falls Norskies 5-0 Friday evening in a Canadian Junior Hockey League preseason match-up at the Winkler Recreation Complex.

A first period power play helped the Flyers pick up the only tally they would need on the night as William Blake scored at 13:53.

Another man advantage to begin the middle stanza allowed Winkler to go up by two as Christian connected 43 seconds into the session.

Anderson notched his marker four minutes later to put the home side up 3-0 after two periods of play.

The Flyers then put the game away in the final frame on markers from Coltyn Bates and Garrett Kuklica to round out the scoring.

Norskies’ netminder Brock Lafabvre was pelted with 56 shots in defeat for the Norskies.

The same two teams will finish off their weekend home-and-home Saturday in a 7 p.m. start at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls.
