Norskies blank Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Alec Daman tallied twice while Bailey Schmitz turned aside all 21 shots he faced to post his fourth shutout of the season as the Thief River Falls Norskies blanked the Minnesota Iron Rangers 5-0 in Superior International Junior Hockey League action Friday evening at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Thief River Falls struck twice in the middle session starting with Daman’s first of the night 8:45 into the second in what turned out to be the game-winning goal.

Jared Pedersen added another for the Norskies late in the frame to put them up by two.

The visitors then put the game away in the third as they tacked on three to win going away.

Michael Johnson, Daman and Cody Aarvig were the marksmen in the period.

Parker Simonson and Mitchell Soderberg chipped in with two assists each for Thief River Falls.

Tyler Thompson was busy in the Iron Rangers net as he faced 48 attempts in defeat.
