Miners Hire New Head Coach/GM

The Red Lake Miners of the Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL) are excited to announce the hiring of Kevin Walker as  Head Coach/GM.

Walker, who is from Timmins Ontario, played 4 years of Junior hockey with the Abitibi Eskimos before playing 3 seasons in Europe.  Once back in Canada Walker started coaching in the Timmins Majors U18AAA program and was the head coach for the 2021-2022 season.

“Kevin is a great communicator and teacher of the game.” stated Red Lake Miners President Jason Vinet.  “His leadership characteristics and importance of community will resonate well with the players and the Red Lake Area.  He will be afforded the necessary tools in order forms to achieve our goal of representing the SIJHL in Portage next May.”

“First and foremost I am ecstatic to become part of the community of Red Lake and getting to work with a great organization like the Miners.” said Walker.  Last season was a tremendous success for the team and we hope to build off it this year.  I look forward to continuing a culture of excellence and doing things the right way, day in and day out, on the ice and in the community.”

The Miners will start the defence of their 2021-22 SIJHL Championship on September 23rd against the Wisconsin Lumberjacks in Spooner.
