Thunder Bay, ON – The Superior International Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce its 2022-2023 Regular Season schedule.
Opening Day will be Friday September 23 with reigning Bill Salonen Cup playoff champion Red Lake Miners visiting the Wisconsin Lumberjacks and the Dryden GM Ice Dogs hosting the playoff runner-up Kam River Fighting Walleye.
The expansion Sioux Lookout Bombers will play their inaugural game on Saturday October 1 at the Sioux Lookout Memorial Arena against the Wisconsin Lumberjacks.
Regular Season
The SIJHL is entering its 21st season. The regular schedule will see each team play in 54 games as its seven member-teams will play each opponent nine times.
The league is planning a significant change to its annual showcase which will be announced in the near future.
Bill Salonen Cup Playoffs
The regular-season champion will earn a first-round bye, while the remaining teams will face-off in the quarterfinal round featuring #2 seed vs. #7 seed, #3 seed vs. #6 seed and the #4 seed vs. #5 seed.
Opening round series winners will advance to the Bill Salonen Cup semi-finals and join the #1 seed.
All series will be best-of-7 affairs. Opening round action will commence on Friday March 24, 2023.
National Championships / Centennial Cup
The Bill Salonen Cup Playoff Champion will represent the SIJHL in the CJHL National Championship Centennial Cup in Portage La Prairie, MB which will open on May 11, 2023 and run through May 21.
