The Red Lake Miners completed the weekend sweep with a 3rd period rally, the 2nd day in a row the visiting team came from behind to win.
The Miners started the day off strong, Hudson Gagne scoring his 1st of the season just under 4 minutes into the contest. They held the 1-0 lead into the 1st intermission.
Jaxen Savage tied the game for the Walleye in the 2nd, a powerplay marker that was his 1st of the season. Despite numerous powerplay opportunities for both clubs, the score remained knotted at 1 heading into the 3rd period.
The Fish took the lead at the 6:51 mark of the 3rd, after Logan Hanna potted a nifty backhand deke on the powerplay. Then Cayleb Gustave scored his 1st as a Walleye midway through the period to give the home side a 3-1 advantage. Kam River looked in firm control of things until Jakob Boekelder brought the visitors to within 1 with just over 2 minutes remaining. And then Red Lake’s Hayden Seib tied the game in dramatic fashion with 2 seconds left on the clock, his shot hitting the right post and rolling behind Walleye goaltender Noah Muise.
The Miners capitalized on a man advantage opportunity in overtime, Luca Laforges 1st of the season, to come away with the comeback win and a 4-point weekend on the road.
Kam River next plays Fort Frances in a home-and-home series next Friday and Saturday,
Red Lake travels to Sioux Lookout on Friday night before hosting Dryden on Saturday.
