Lakers’ netminder Alex Bugeja named SIJHL Play It Again Sports Player of the Week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Fort Frances Lakers goaltender Alex Bugeja has been named its initial Play It Again Sports Player of the Week for the 2019-20 season.

In two starts over the weekend, the 18-year-old West Vancouver, B.C., product backstopped the Lakers to a home-and-home sweep of the Thief River Falls Norskies.

Making 30-plus saves in each outing for Fort Frances, Bugeja wrapped up his first week in the league with a SIJHL-best 1.96 goals-against average, along with a solid .945 save percentage that featured a triumph at Ice for Kids Arena Friday and a come from behind overtime road decision Saturday.
