Lakers’ Kapcheck commits to NCAA

FORT FRANCES — The Superior International Junior Hockey League champion Fort Frances Lakers have announced that defenceman A.J. Kapcheck has committed to attend Robert Morris University in Illinois and play for the Eagles hockey team in the fall.

In 38 games with the Lakers in 2014-15 the Chicago, Ill., product picked up 26 points on eight goals and 18 assists.

The 20-year-old Kapcheck added another seven helpers in the postseason helping Fort Frances repeat as SIJHL Bill Salonen Cup champions.

“A.J. was instrumental in our success over the past season and had numerous NCAA and ACHA offers to choose from,” stated Lakers head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan.

The Robert Morris Eagles are members of the American Collegiate Hockey Association.

In other team news the club has dealt the Hockey Canada playing rights of defenceman Sam Schultz to the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

“Sam expressed interest in playing somewhere else so we honoured that wish and moved him to Dauphin of the MJHL,” offered Strachan.

“In return we receive future considerations that will be finalized in September,” added the Fort Frances coach and GM.
