Lakers’ Jordan Cartney named Pizza Hut player of the week

THUNDER BAY – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that Fort Frances Lakers netminder Jordan Cartney has been named Pizza Hut player of the week for the period concluding Nov. 4

In two starts last week the 19-year-old native of Calgary, Alta., registered a pair of victories including posting the first shutout of the season in SIJHL play.

That blanking came this past Wednesday as he turned aside all 31 shots he faced to backstop Fort Frances to a 6-0 road victory over the Dryden Ice Dogs.

Three night slater he saw another 18 shots fired his way in a 4-2 triumph vs. the English River Miners in Ear Falls.

Overall Cartney has won his last five starts for Fort Frances while sporting a 6-1 record on the campaign. He also leads all SIJHL stoppers in both goals-against average and save percentage at 1.98 and .935 respectively.

Also receiving consideration for the league’s weekly award were Dane Feeney, (F) Dryden Ice Dogs, Taylor Santorelli, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars, John Morales, (F) English River Miners, Jonathon Losurdo, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers and Darrick Howard, (F) Wisconsin Wilderness.

At the conclusion of the regular season the SIJHL’s most valuable player will be presented the Pizza Hut player of the year award and will also go on to be the league’s representative for the national Canadian Junior Hockey League player of the year trophy.
