Ice Dogs make roster moves

DRYDEN — The Dryden Ice Dogs are welcoming two new faces to the organization.

The Ice Dogs have acquired 20-year-old Tim Kavanaugh from the OCN Blizzard of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

Kavanaugh played two seasons with the Blizzards recording six goals and 16 assists for 22 points in 69 games.

The Eagle Lake First Nation resident started his hockey career with the Ice Dogs in 2009-10 where he picked up two goals and 16 assists in 30 games.

Kavanaugh is a natural defenceman, but played his first game with the Ice Dogs on Nov. 1st as a forward in which he picked up an assist in that contest.

Dryden have also acquired 19-year-old Joel Warkentin from the Elliot Lake Bobcats of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Warkentin was in his first season with the Bobcats where the stay at home defenceman was held pointless in the 11 games he played.

The native of Fork River, Man., dressed in 49 with the Neepawa Natives (MJHL) in 2012-13 and had one goal and set-up another while registering 44 penalty minutes.

Warkentin is listed as 6’0, 190 pounds.

The Ice Dogs did not give up any roster players in either of the transactions.

Dryden has also parted ways with second-year forward Rory Court who saw his Hockey Canada playing rights dealt to the Grand Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League for a player development fee.

Court was tied for the team lead in points this season with eight goals and 14 assists.

The club has also released forward Casey Prange.

The Ice Dogs return to game action Tuesday evening as they travel to Thunder Bay to take on the second place North Stars in a 6:30 p.m. CT start at the Fort William Gardens.
