Lakers’ forward Tustin commits to Williston St. College of ACHA

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – The Fort Frances Lakers of the Superior International Junior Hockey League has announced that forward Matt Tustin has committed to attend school at Williston State College in North Dakota as well as skate for the Tetons men’s hockey program that competes out of the American Collegiate Hockey Association.

“We are happy to announce Matt’s commitment to Williston St., as he becomes the sixth graduating player from our program from this past season to join a school and have the opportunity to become a student-athlete,” offered Fort Frances head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan.

“It proves our program strives to help our players achieve their goals,” added Strachan.

The veteran forward wrapped up his Jr. A career finishing third on the Lakers in scoring as he averaged a point-per-game with 55 in as many outings on 22 goals and 33 assists.

His offensive totals easily set personal single-season highs in all three categories for the native of Whitby, Ont.

“Matt was a competitor for us and grew as a person and player through the two years he was with the Lakers,” stated Strachan.

“Last season he had a big offensive year for us and we hope he can build off that to help the Tetons as he makes the jump to college hockey.”

Fort Frances also announced the re-signing of ’97 F Julian Uhrnyiuk for the 2017-18 campaign.

The 20-year-old from East St. Paul, Man., saw action in 39 contests for the Lakers last season as he went on to register 20 points, including eight tallies.
