Lakers earn 4th straight victory in romp over Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The suddenly surging Fort Frances Lakers picked up two goals each from Colton Bodnar and Nick Lucas to help them skate to their fourth consecutive win as they rolled over the Minnesota Iron Rangers 9-2 Thursday in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Mihali See did stake the Iron Rangers to the lead in the first period only to see Jaedin Ness tie it for the Lakers before the frame was complete.

Fort Frances broke the game open in the middle stanza as they tacked on four unanswered markers from Lucas, Ian Tookenay, Ian Jarvis and Bodnar to put them up 5-1 after 40 minutes.

It was more Lakers in the final session as they added another four more markers.

Tallies 13 seconds apart early from Anthony Antonelli and Bodnar extended the cushion to six while Christian Ward added to the onslaught at 11:01.

Mark Sanchez did get one back for Minnesota as he supplied his 17th goal of the season before Lucas struck shorthanded with just over four minutes to play to round out the night’s scoring.

Ness, Tookenay, Adam Withers, Jack Bernie and Hunter Buzzi chipped in with two assists apiece for Fort Frances in the one-sided triumph.

Brett Akins made 27 saves to record the win for the Lakers while Rob Ivy faced 45 attempts in defeat for the Iron Rangers.
