Kam River Tops Fort Frances

Oliver Paipoonge, ON – After a 4-0 victory over the Lakers on Friday night, the Kam River Fighting Walleye played host to Fort Frances again on Saturday, in front of a jam-packed NorWest Arena crowd,  to complete the two-game weekend series.

Ethan Lang, Braeden Duchesne, and Jeremy Dunmore tallied first period goals for the home side, giving them a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

After the Lakers’ Brady Krentz got the visitors on the board early in the second, Brydon Bell restored his team’s 3-goal lead with a top shelf wrist shot from the point that eluded Fort Frances goalie Brenden Stroble. Then with a little over a minute remaining in the 2nd, the Walleye’s Kobe Braham jumped on a failed clearing attempt and deposited a sharp-angle shot into the net for his 3rd goal in a Kam River jersey.

Braeden Duchesne, with a nice deke in close, and Ryan Doucette, on a second-effort rebound, would score third period goals to complete the home side’s 7-1 victory.

Making his first Junior A start for the Walleye was 18 year old affiliate goaltender Andrew Kreis, from Regina, Saskatchewan. Kreis had a memorable debut, stopping 41 of 42 shots en-route to his first “tier 2” victory.

The Fighting Walleye host the Thunder Bay North Stars on Wednesday night at the Pond, in what is sure to be another heated battle between the two cross-town rivals. The Lakers host the Sioux Lookout Bombers on Thursday night at Ice For Kids Arena.
