GM Ice Dogs’ Golka named SIJHL player of the week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. –  The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Dryden GM Ice Dogs forward Cole Golka has been named the SIJHL player of the week for the period ending Sept. 28.

In three outings during the week that was the 19-year-old Strathcona County, Alta., native had goals in each of them helping Dryden post a 2-0-0-1 record and take early hold of top spot in the SIJHL standings.

Golka began by notching a tally in the GM Ice Dogs 4-2 triumph over Fort Frances Wednesday helping hand the defending Bill Salonen Cup champion Lakers their first loss of the 2014-15 campaign.

Two nights later he had a goal and an assist in Dryden’s 7-6 shootout setback vs. Thunder Bay.

He then capped off his week with a goal, plus the decider in the shootout, as the Ice Dogs rallied to defeat the Minnesota Iron Rangers 6-5 in extra shots.
 
Also receiving consideration for the SIJHL player of the week were: Colton Spicer, (F) Fort Frances Lakers, Evan Erickson, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers, Bradley Belisle, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars and Dominic Blouin, (F) English River Miners.
