GM Ice Dogs complete weekend sweep of Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs got goals from five different skaters and three assists from captain Derek McPhail to help them defeat the Minnesota Iron Rangers 5-2 Saturday in a Superior International Junior Hockey League encounter at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Dryden grabbed an early 2-0 lead on markers by Matt Houston 55 seconds into the contest and another by Blake Berg on the power play at 7:07.

Minnesota got one back before the opening frame was complete on Zack Taylor first SIJHL goal, which came via the man advantage at 12:04.

Two more GM Ice Dogs tallies in the middle stanza from Kyle Sutherland, who picked up his first league marker and Tanner Watt to put the visitors up by three.

The Iron Rangers made it 4-2 with five and a half minutes left in the second as John Cuni connected during a man advantage opportunity.

Dryden finished off the win and a road sweep of Minnesota in the final minute of regulation as Troy Williams scored on the power play to wrap things up.

Taylor Unruh made 26 saves to record the win for the GM Ice Dogs.

Alex Burke faced 31 shots in defeat for the Iron Rangers.
