Fort Frances signs D-man Murray

FORT FRANCES — The Superior International Junior Hockey League champion Fort Frances Lakers announced Wednesday the signing of defenceman Craig Murray.

The 18-year-old native of New Glasgow, N.S., played the last two seasons with his hometown Weeks AAA Major Midgets side in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League.

“We feel Craig can come in and immediately help our hockey team,” offered Lakers head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan.

“He is a very mobile, puck-carrying, defenceman, who likes to skate and has good speed along with great agility and edge control,” added Strachan.

“He also has excellent puck control skills and a solid shot. He can quarterback a power play unit and has all the tools to be a capable offensive defenseman at the Jr. A level.”
