Fort Frances shuts out English River

EAR FALLS, Ont. – The Fort Frances Lakers rode the strength of a four-goal second period and the shutout goaltending of newcomer  Nathan Park to blank the English River Miners 5-0 Thursday evening in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up at Ear Falls Arena.

After a scoreless opening session, Fort Frances struck four times in a span just four minutes to take control of the contest.

Colton Spicer got the visitors going with his 12th of the season at 6:52.

That was followed by a Mason Meyer shorthanded effort a minute and a half later.

The Lakers added to their cushion at 9:23 courtesy of Carter Chorney while Marco Romano added another at 11:06.

Matt Vela then capped things off for Fort Frances in the final frame as the league-leaders won for the 21st time in 2014-15.

Park kicked out all 24 shots fired his way is his SIJHL debut.

Greg Harney saw 32 shots in a losing cause for the Miners.
