Fort Frances runs win streak to 6

EAR FALLS, Ont. – The surging Fort Frances Lakers won for a sixth consecutive game Thursday as they defeated the English River Miners 5-2 in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up at Ear Falls Arena.

Fort Frances got things going offensively two and a half minutes into the contest thanks to Carter Chorney’s fourth goal of the season.

English River came right back with the equalizer on Konnor Dechaine’s 14th of the campaign at 3:49.

The Lakers answered that and took a 2-1 lead into the second stanza on a Julian Uhryniuk effort midway through the opening frame.

Christian Ripley added to the visitors lead 19 seconds into the frame and then made it 4-1 with two minutes left in the second when Jack Bernie found the back of the net.

After Cole Tymikn made it 5-1 just past the five-minute mark of the third, the Miners’ Ryker Moreau rounded out the scoring at 8:53.

Nick Minerva dished out a pair of assists for Fort Frances in the win.

Pierce Dushenko made 35 saves in earning the victory for the Lakers who, improving his record to 10-1 overall.

Korlan Vader started for English River and suffered the loss allowing four against on 25 attempts in 40 minutes of work.

Reid Kilburn came in to start the third and stopped eight of nine attempts he faced in relief.
