Fort Frances doubles up Minnesota

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Fort Frances Lakers scored two of their three power play goals on the night in the game’s final three minutes to pull out a 4-2 victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Miles Nolan notched the first of two man advantage markers for the the Lakers with the lone tally of the opening period as he found the back of the net two and a half minutes into the contest.

It stayed that way until the 15:24 mark of the middle stanza where Minnesota’s Jason Reynolds notched the equalizer to send the two teams into the third period knotted at 1-1.

After Bowen Alcock put Fort Frances back on top nine minutes in the final frame, Noah Anderson levelled the proceedings for the Iron Rangers, via the power play, with 5:59 left in regulation.

Up a man, Bryson Jasper buried the game-winner at 17:16 before Nolan iced it with his second of the evening with five seconds left to round out the night’s scoring.

Fort Frances netminder Ryan Ferguson was stellar for his side finishing the night with 49 saves helping his side improve to 10-3-0-1 on the season.

Kyle Carignan made 23 stops in a losing cause for Minnesota, who fell to 6-4-0-1 on the campaign.
