Former SIJHL standout Hutton named NHL’s 3rd star of the week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The National Hockey League announced Monday that former Superior International Junior Hockey League standout netminder Carter Hutton has been named NHL third star of the week for the period ending Dec. 15 for his on-ice efforts with the Nashville Predators.

In three games last week Hutton went unbeaten posting a 3-0-0 record with a stingy 1.33 goals-against average along with the stellar .960 save percentage.

The 27-year-old Thunder Bay native registered victories over the New York Rangers, (4-1) Dallas Stars, (3-1) and San Jose Sharks, (3-2) to earn the accolades.

In 14 games with Nashville this season Hutton has a 7-3-1 record along with a 2.76 average and a .913 save mark.

The former Fort William North Stars stopper was named the SIJHL’s top goaltender award recipient back in the 2005-06 season when he helped backstop his club to both a Bill Salonen Cup league title and a Dudley-Hewitt Cup Central Canada Jr. A championship as well as a semifinal berth in the RBC Cup national event where they fell in overtime to the eventual champion Burnaby Express. From there he went on to star in the NCAA ranks with at UMass-Lowell for four years before turning pro.
