Fighting Walleye Make A Coaching Change

Oliver Paipoonge, ON | The Kam River Fighting Walleye announce that they have relieved Head Coach Matt Valley of his duties, effective immediately.

Matt guided the team to an outstanding overall regular season record of 49-12-2-1 in his two and a half seasons behind the Walleye bench. He was named the 2021-22 SIJHL Coach of the Year.

“It was a tough decision for our organization, but we believed we had to make a decision on bringing in a full-time coach,” Kevin McCallum, General Manager of the Fighting Walleye, said. “We couldn't be prouder of what Matt brought to our organization both on and off the ice. His accomplishments will always be celebrated with our organization. We wish Matt well with his future.”

The entire Fighting Walleye organization would like to wish Matt good luck in everything he does. It was a pleasure to work with him over the past three years, and we will always consider him part of the Walleye family.

The search for a new head coach will begin immediately. General Manager Kevin McCallum and Hockey Operations Advisor Vern Ray will assume coaching duties in the interim.
