English River’s Champagne named Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions player of the week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. –  The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that English River Miners captain Eric Champagne has been selected the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player of the week for the period ending Oct. 26.

In two games this past week the 19-year-old North Bay, Ont., product had three goals, increasing his team-leading total to nine, and added an assist in a pair of contests vs. the Thunder Bay North Stars.

Champagne began by scoring twice and doling out an assist in a 6-5 setback Friday.

One night later the Miners’ forward notched another tally helping his club rally for a 6-5 come from behind victory helping English River skate to their second win of the season.

Champagne leads the Miners in offensive production averaging a point-per-game with 12 in as many outings.

His nine markers are the fifth most in the SIJHL so far this season as he has scored nearly 22% of his teams’ goals so far in the 2014-15 campaign.

Also receiving consideration for the SIJHL player of the week were: Ryan Walsh, (D) Thunder Bay North Stars, Bryson Jasper, (F) Fort Frances Lakers, Jonathon Philley, (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs and Noah Anderson, (D) Minnesota Iron Rangers.
