Dryden’s Cole Golka named SIJHL’s Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions MVP

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Friday that Cole Golka of the Dryden GM Ice Dogs has been named the SIJHL Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions most valuable player for the 2014-15 season.

Golka won the award over fellow MVP finalists Lucas DeBenedet of the Fort Frances Lakers and Jason Reynolds of the Minnesota Iron Rangers.

The 20-year-old, who hails from Strathcona County, Alta., becomes just the second Dryden player in the 14-year history of the SIJHL to capture league MVP honours joining former Ice Dogs’ defenceman Jon Mitchell who earned the laurels back in 2010-11.

Golka, who was earlier named a CCM first team all-star at forward, had a tremendous 2014-15 campaign leading all SIJHL skaters in both goals and points with 47 and 89 respectively.

His 42 assists also put him into a share for third most overall.

The GM Ice Dogs forward also finished tied for the league-lead in game-winning tallies with seven, while his 14 power play markers were the second most in the SIJHL.

Golka earlier established new Dryden franchise records for goals and points in a single season.

The following is the list of the SIJHL’s all-time Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions most valuable player recipients:
