Dryden Ice Dogs goaltender Eric Szymczyk named Pizza Hut player of the week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. –  The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Dryden Ice Dogs goaltender Eric Szymczyk has been named the Pizza Hut player of the week for the period concluding Nov. 4.

In two starts this past week the 20-year-old Toronto native won both of them backstopping the Ice Dogs to a pair of victories over the Fort Frances Lakers.

Szymczyk began with 37-save performance in a 4-1 road triumph on Friday and followed that up the next night by turning aside 31 of 32 attempts he faced in a 3-1 win on home ice.

For the week he finished with a 1.00 goals-against average in 120 minutes of work while registering an impressive .971 save percentage.

On the season the Dryden netminder is currently tied for second in the SIJHL in wins among goalkeepers with seven.

In recognition of his on-ice efforts Szymczyk will be presented a gift card courtesy of Pizza Hut.
