Dryden earns weekend split with Red Lake

RED LAKE, Ont. – Macrae Setoguchi’s first Superior International Junior Hockey League goal coming with just over 12 minutes remaining in regulation was the game-winner as the Dryden GM Ice Dogs pulled out a narrow 2-1 triumph over the Red Lake Miners Saturday at Cochenour Arena.

After falling on home ice to Red Lake Friday night, Dryden opened the scoring in this one 11:21 into the match-up as Dylan Winsor knocked in his 10th tally of the campaign to give the guests a 1-0 lead after one period of play.

Moving to the middle stanza, the Miners drew level at 3:47 as Spencer Milne fed Noah Kwasny in the high slot, who promptly fired the equalizer past GM Ice Dogs starter Knute Loe.

It stayed tied until the Setoguchi effort as he redirected a Parker James attempt from the right point that found its way past Red Lake netminder Zach Willms.

From there Loe stood tall between the pipes as he finished by stopping 31 of the 32 shots fired his way to record the road victory.

As for Willms, who is one win away from matching the SIJHL record for most career triumphs of 51, faced 33 attempts in the low-scoring setback.
