Dryden drops long-time rival Thunder Bay

DRYDEN, Ont. – The oldest franchises in the Superior International Junior Hockey League renewed acquaintances in a match-up Monday at Memorial Arena and in the end, it was the Dryden GM Ice Dogs that handled the visiting Thunder Bay North Stars 5-1 on home ice.

Special teams helped Dryden open the scoring at 16:45 as Jesse Mistelbacher connected on the power for his seventh goal since joining the club back in mid-January.

The GM Ice Dogs then added an even strength effort late in the first period as Curtis Magas collected his 11th of the campaign.

In the middle stana, Amraj Gill buried his first SIJHL marker to go with his 32 assists as the home side went up by three.

A late man advantage helped Thunder Bay get on the board with Jacob Brown netting No. 28 on the year with help from Cody Bruchkowski and Alex Erwin.

Dryden then put the game away in the back half of the third thanks to Dylan Winsor at even strength and Bryson McDonald with an empty netter.

GM Ice Dogs starter Jacob Anthony made 37 saves to collect the victory.

Seth McKay started for the North Stars and suffered the loss allowing three on 24 attempts while Dylan Kosik handled 16 of 17 in relief.
