Dryden defeats Fort Frances 5-3

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Cole Golka tallied twice while Jonathon Philley had a goal and two assists to help the Dryden GM Ice Dogs defeat the Fort Frances Lakers 5-3 Saturday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Ice for Kids Arena.

Philley’s 10th of the season 15 minutes into the contest gave Dryden the lead as the Ice Dogs forward extended a consecutive game point streak to six straight outings.

Bryson Jasper tied it for the Lakers early in the second before Joel Zieroth put the visitors back on top at 8:06.

Jasper’s second of the stanza levelled the proceedings once again at 11:02 only to see Golka and Matt Houston connect for Dryden before the period was out to make it 4-2 after 40 minutes.

A Colton Spicer power play effort 7:13 into the final frame pulled Fort Frances to within one, but Golka’s second of the night with 1:18 to go rounded out the scoring for the GM Ice Dogs.

Tate Sproxton made 30 saves to record the win for Dryden while Ryan Ferguson faced 25 shots in defeat for the Lakers.
