6-point night for Golka as Dryden defeats Minnesota

DRYDEN, Ont. – Cole Golka scored four times and set-up two others to help pace the Dryden GM Ice Dogs to an 8-4 triumph over the Minnesota Iron Rangers in a Saturday evening Superior International Junior Hockey League affair at Memorial Arena.

Dryden took a 2-1 lead after one period of play sandwiching goals by Ben Smaha and Golka around one by the Iron Rangers Max Kaercher.

Each side added one more each in the middle session thanks to efforts by Anthony Filoso of the GM Ice Dogs and Minnesota’s Alex Arnold.

Dryden came out flying to start the final frame and found the back of the net five times in the first 15 minutes of the session to take control of the contest.

After Smaha struck on the power play 27 seconds into the period, Eric Masters added another before Golka buried three in a row to finish off his impressive night.

The Iron Rangers added a pair of late markers from Evan Erickson to round out the scoring.

Minnesota actually outshot Dryden 43-23 on the night with former Iron Rangers’ netminder Chase Gorman picking up the win for the Ice Dogs while Kyle Carignan suffered the loss.

SIJHL action resumes Tuesday as Dryden takes on the English River Miners in a 7 p.m. start in Red Lake.
