3 for Nigro as North Stars hand Lakers 2nd straight loss

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Nicholas Nigro scored all three goals for the Thunder Bay North Stars while Eric Mann made 36 saves to help the Thunder Bay North Stars defeat the Fort Frances Lakers for a second straight game as they skated to a 3-1 victory Friday in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Ice for Kids Arena.

Nigro got things going for the visitors as he supplied the only marker in the first at 10:22.

Nigro then added another at 4:23 of the second as he finished off a North Stars man advantage opportunity.

Fort Frances cut into the deficit late in the middle session as Dylan Robertson converted on a penalty shot at 18:01.

Nigro then secured the road win for Thunder Bay with two seconds remaining in the third with an empty netter.

Brad Arabia had two assists for the North Stars in the triumph.

Defenceman Joe Newhouse picked up an assist on Nigro’s second marker, which helped him extend a consecutive game point streak to 12 straight games.

Pierce Dushenko played the first two periods for Fort Frances and suffered the loss stopping 23 of 25.

Brandon Bodnar handled all seven attempts he faced in relief.
