North Stars Corbin shuts out Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Riley Corbin stopped all 38 shots he faced for his fourth shutout of the season to backstop the Thunder Bay North Stars to a 3-0 triumph over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Tuesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play Tuesday evening at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

With Thunder Bay down a man late in the opening period, Corbin started off a shorthanded opportunity for his side that eventually saw Nicholas Nigro notch the eventual game-winner at the 19-minute mark of the frame as he picked up his league-leading 29th goal of the season.

It stayed 1-0 until just past the eight-minute plateau of the third when Kris Hamlin connected on the power play for Thunder Bay.

Hamlin then added another providing some insurance for the North Stars 78 seconds later to round out the night’s scoring.

The shutout for Corbin was his fourth of the campaign, which ties him for tops in the SIJHL with Pierce Dushenko of the Frances Lakers.

Anthony Pupplo made 35 saves in defeat for Minnesota.
