Lakers strike late to edge Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. –  A Julian Uhryhiuk goal with 1:48 remaining in regulation was the game-winner as the Fort Frances Lakers edged the Minnesota Iron Rangers 4-3 in Superior International Junior Hockey League action Tuesday at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Minnesota began the scoring in the contest 11:36 in as Austin Ramirez notched his ninth of the campaign.

Fort Frances countered with tallies 14 seconds apart later in the stanza to take a 2-1 lead through 20 minutes off the sticks Jack Bernie and Christian Ripley.

Dylan Robertson’s 29th of the season 73 seconds into the middle frame put the visitors up 3-1.

Special teams allowed the Iron Rangers to make it 3-2 at 16:55 of the period as Logan Froberg connected on the power play.

Minnesota then tied it four and a half minutes into the third when Tristyn Sabina collected his eighth in 2015-16 for Minnesota.

Then with overtime looming, Uhryniuk won it late for the Lakers to give them the win.

Andrew Willner dished out two assists for Fort Frances while Dayton Honkanen did likewise for Minnesota.

Brandon Bodnar made 31 stops to record the victory for the Lakers while Iron Rangers netminder Anthony Pupplo faced 37 attempts in defeat.
