Lakers’ Jaswel named Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions player of the week
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Fort Frances Lakers defenceman Roshen Jaswal has been named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player of the week for the period ending Jan. 3.
In two outings to begin play in 2016, the 20-year-old Burnaby, B.C. product picked up three points helping Fort Frances win twice while also extending a team consecutive-game winning streak to eight.
Jaswal began with an assist in a 4-1 triumph over the English River Miners on home ice Saturday night.
He then followed that up by notching the game-winning goal while also helping set-up another marker Sunday as the Lakers edged second place Dryden 4-3 on the road.
Since rejoining Fort Frances in late November, Jaswal has picked up a dozen points in nine outings on five tallies and seven helpers. The Lakers have also won each of those games he has dressed in as well.
Also earning consideration for Amyotte’s player of the week honours was Riley Corbin, (G) Thunder Bay North Stars; Mark Ziobro, (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs and Konnar Dechaine (F) English River Miners.
Note: The Minnesota Iron Rangers did not play last week, thus did not have a player of the week nominee.
