Wilderness edge Iron Rangers 2-1 to go up 2-0 in series

CLOQUET, Minn.  – Dan Divis tallied twice in the second period to help the Minnesota Wilderness edge the Minnesota Iron Rangers 2-1 Saturday evening in game 2 of their Superior International Junior Hockey League semifinal series at Northwoods Credit Union Arena.

With the win the Wilderness now lead the best-of-seven 2-0 heading into games 3 and 4 Tuesday and Thursday at Hoyt Lakes Arena. Game time each night is set for 7 p.m.

Following a scoreless opening period Divis put the home side on the board 2:07 into the middle stanza only to see the Iron Rangers’ Luke Karakas tie it just 27 seconds later.

Divis then buried the game-winner midway through the session in what would turn out to be the final goal of the evening.

Jordan Shockley and Jeremy Johnson each chipped in with two assists apiece to aid the offensive cause for the Wilderness.

The goaltenders, in Gordy Defiel of the Wilderness and Chase Hollander of the Iron Rangers, were equally as solid on this night with Defiel making 32 saves and Hollander 35.

The Iron Rangers pulled Hollander in the late stages in favour of an extra attacker and were almost rewarded, but Defiel made a big stop on Jonathon Losurdo in the final minute to preserve the victory.
