Wilderness blank Ice Dogs

CLOQUET, Minn.  – The Minnesota Wilderness got a pair of goals from Dylan Haskins and a 27-save shutout courtesy of Gordy Defiel to help lead them to a 7-0 victory over the visiting Dryden Ice Dogs Saturday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Northwoods Credit Union Arena in Cloquet.

It appeared the opening period would be scoreless only to see the Wilderness strike twice in the final two minutes of the session on tallies by Haskins and Mike MacKinnon to go up a pair after 20 minutes.

They extended their cushion to three after two periods of play thanks to Jeremy Johnson.

Minnesota then put the game away in the third tacking on four more goals.

Notching those efforts were Jake Larson, Dan Divis, Jordan Shockley and Haskins.

Nick Sova chipped in with a pair of assists to aid the Wilderness offensive cause.

Eric Szymczyk faced 45 shots in a losing cause for Dryden.

SIJHL action resumes Tuesday on two fronts as the Wilderness pay a visit to Hoyt Lakes to take on the Minnesota Iron Rangers at 7 p.m. while the Ice Dogs travel to Fort Frances to meet the Lakers at 7:30 p.m.
