Walleye Win In Shootout Miners Take Season Series

For the second straight night the Kam River Walleye were the visiting team at the Cochenour Arena to take on the Red Lake Miners.  This would be the last meeting in the regular season between these 2 teams.  Eric Vanska would get the start in net for the Walley while Kiev Kineshanko was back in the crease for the Miners.

First period had scoring chances both ways but both Vanska and Kineshanko were up to the task.  After 20 minutes of play the game is a scoreless tie.  Shots on goal after 1 period 10-6 in favour of the Miners.

Kam River would open the scoring the second period.  Jeremy Dunmore would bang rebound home past Kineshanko for his 16th at 1:58. Treston Moisey would draw the Miners even at 8:43 beating Vanska with wrist shot for his 3rd of the season.  Miners would take a 2-1 lead at 16:03 when Kenyon Nyman’s point shot was redirected past Vanska for his 5th of the season.  After 40 minutes of play the Miners lead 2-1 and have a 25-13 shot lead.

Miners would take a 3-1 lead courtesy of a power play.  Brady Harroun would finish off a  nice passing play for his 21st at 5:08. Johnny McCollum would pull the Walleye within one at 9:41 with a shot from the point that would evade Kineshanko for his 2nd.  At 16:28 Dunmore would tie the game up with his 2nd of the night and 17th of the season.  That would be the end of the third period scoring and this game would head to overtime.

5 minutes of overtime would settle nothing and this game would need to be settled by a shoot out.

Dayton Clarke would score the only goal in the shootout to give the Walleye the win. Eric Vanska picked up his 11th win of the season.

Despite the shootout loss the Miners would take the season series with a  5-2-1-1 record for 12 points to Kam Rivers 4-3-2-0 record for 10 points.
