Surging Miners defeat Ice Dogs 4-2

LAC SEUL – A Brendan Wilde goal with 8:59 remaining proved to be the game-winner as the English River Miners rallied for a 4-2 win over the Dryden Ice Dogs Wednesday evening in a Superior International Junior Hockey League neutral site contest staged at Lac Seul Arena.

A back-and-forth opening period remained scoreless until late in the session when the Miners got on the board via the power play as Royce Kings wristed one home at 18:44.

The Ice Dogs pulled even a couple minutes into the middle session with a man advantage marker of their own courtesy of Mack Boyce.

Tyson Holder then put Dryden on top at 5:26 of the frame as he notched his 13th tally of the season.

English River pulled even before the stanza was complete as they connected late on the power play once again as Will Wickersham found the back of the net with just nine seconds left in the second period.

Wilde then buried the eventual game-winner as he wired a shot past Shayne Dietl in the Dryden net at 11:01.

Devan Vander Wyk then added some insurance with 6:34 to go to round out the night’s scoring.

Dryden outshot English River by a 45-30 margin with Greg Harney picking up the victory and Deitl the loss.

With the win the first-year Miners won their third in a row while having gone 6-0-1-0 in their past seven outings and improving to 10-11-0-2 overall.

Dryden fell to 12-14-0-1 with the defeat.
