SIJHL’s Bill Salonen Cup final schedule announced
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Sunday the schedule for the upcoming Bill Salonen Cup championship series between the Fort Frances Lakers and the Dryden GM Ice Dogs.
Each game in the best-of-seven series features a 7:30 p.m. Central start time, with the exception of Game 2 in Fort Frances, which will get underway at 6:30 p.m. CT.
The Bill Salonen Cup will commence Thursday at Ice for Kids Arena in Fort Frances.
That will be followed by Game 2 on Friday, which has all the action getting underway at 6:30 p.m.
From there the series will shift to Dryden Memorial Arena for games three and four on April 14-15.
Should a fifth game in the series be required, it is slated for April 17 in Fort Frances.
Game 6, if necessary, will be held April 18 in Dryden.
Should the series got the distance, Game 7 would be held on Tuesday, April 21.
As the Lakers are serving as the host team for the Dudley-Hewitt Cup, the GM Ice Dogs have also secured a berth in the four-team event regardless of the result of the Bill Salonen Cup final.
Joining Fort Frances and Dryden at the Dudley-Hewitt Cup will be the champions of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League and the Ontario Junior Hockey League.
The NOJHL final features the Soo Thunderbirds taking on the Cochrane Crunch and will get underway Saturday in Sault Ste. Marie.
As for the OJHL, they are nearing the end of semifinal play.
The defending OJHL and Dudley-Hewitt Cup winning Toronto Patriots currently lead the Toronto Jr. Canadiens 3-2 in their best-of-seven heading into Game 6 tonight.
Meanwhile the Kingston Voyageurs can punch their ticket to the Buckland Cup final with a victory on home ice against the Trenton Golden Hawks this evening. They are up 3-2 in that best-of-seven.
