SPOONER, Wis. – Rajvir Sangha provided the lone goal in the shootout while goaltender Cody Levesque made a combined 50 saves to record his first Superior International Junior Hockey League victory as the Red Lake Miners pulled out a narrow 4-3 win over the Wisconsin Lumberjacks Friday at the Spooner Civic Center.
The visiting Miners collected the lone marker of the first frame when Ryan Howe notched his 11th of the season near the midway point of the frame.
Wisconsin came back to tie at 4:27 of the second stanza thanks to a Dalton Garcia man advantage effort.
However, Jordan Baranesky countered a minute later to give Red Lake a 2-1 cushion after two periods of play.
In the third, the Lumberjacks got goal in rapid succession from Cade Moreland and Tyler Shetland to give them their first lead of the night.
Battling back to force overtime, Tucker Evan tied it for the Miners with 8:26 remaining in regulation.
After the five-minute OT didn’t decide things, the match-up went to extra shots for finalize the outcome.
There, Sangha was the only one of the six shooters to convert to help give the Miners the win.
Levesque stopped 47 shots in 65 minutes of work and all three shootout attempts he faced to record the victory while Matt Fitzgerald helped Wisconsin earn a point in defeat with 38 saves.
